There is a malfunction, delay signal and a notification by the conductor – something all commuters are simultaneously annoyed and used too. They wait for the problem to be fixed. The lights go out. It is 6:57pm. The computers relay a hardware error, the 6:20pm eastbound L train is currently stopped on the tracks with no power or communication.
