TTRPGs in the Middle School
“The reason why I stayed (in D&D club) was because it was one of the only social groups I enjoyed. I’m the definition of an introvert . . .but in this group I didn’t hate anyone. It was fun and my hands weren’t shaking for once by my social anxiety.” – 8th grader Tabletop roleplaying games are all the rage. With streaming services such as Twitch and Youtube Live, they have become more accessible and accepted than ever, so how do we implement this with middle school students? Come and hear how one school has used the tabletop gaming genre to teach team building, historical events, social skills, and storytelling to middle and high school students. As a bonus, we’ll also discuss keeping the RPG games alive in a time of distance learning!
