Giant Le Mans – a large-scale expanded version of Avalon Hill’s classic 1961 board game – has been a popular convention game since its inception in 1976, when it was first played at the GEN CON IX game convention in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. By popular demand, Giant Le Mans is returning as a featured event at Madison’s Gamehole Con as a 4 hour demo race event. You are invited to be a part of this special gaming experience.

The Giant Le Mans event begins with a pre-race briefing and demo at Noon on Friday, November 1st followed by the green flag at 1 pm.

This is a game that’s fun to watch, but even more fun to play. The drivers make all the key decisions – how hard to press the car during competition, whether or not to take chances in the corners, when to change worn tires, and how to cope with mechanical problems or body damage from on-track incidents.

During play, each driver holds a clipboard displaying the current performance capabilities, gear speeds and endurance status of the car, moving it around the track as speeds change based upon the chosen gear. At every corner, the driver decides whether to take the turn safely or chance it at a higher speed, rolling the dice to determine the outcome. Pit stops occur for refueling, tire changes and repairs. Each player wears a competition driver vest that matches the color and number of the car they’re in, adding to the flavor of the event.

From setup to victory celebration, Mike Carr and his team of judges keep things moving, handling the scoreboard, answering questions and providing advice for the competitors. If you want to experience “old school” gaming at its best, come and join the fun!
