Yarn Dyeing: Hand-Painted Autumn Hues
In this class, we’ll be working with red, orange, yellow, and green to hand paint a skein of yarn in a riot of autumn color reminiscent of the changing leaves. You’ll learn about the amazing history and qualities of Bluefaced Leicester sheep and wool, experience the science behind the heat/acid dying process used to color animal fibers, and leave with a 100 g. skein of Bluefaced Leicester/Silk/Cashmere blend yarn (fingering weight; 438 yds/400,5 m) that you dyed with your very own hands! Be sure to check out my other two dyeing classes: Hand-Painted Fire Hues and Hand-Painted Water Hues! (All materials, supplies, and safety equipment will be provided by the instructor. Please note: We will be working with active dyes, so please do be mindful of your clothing. Dark-colored, cotton clothing is recommended. The instructor is not responsible for stains, you’ve been properly warned.)
