POI – Beginner
POI – Beginner
Poi is the Maori term for ball, and used in performance art. While storytelling or dancing, performers rhythmically swing weighted apparatus around their bodies and as extensions of their arms. The use of poi improves strength and flexibility in the arms, and is very helpful for movement and coordination. Expect to laugh a lot, learn skills and movements, and an occasional bonk, because we are swinging things around our body. This is a physically active class, so keep that in mind, but it doesn’t necessarily require coordination – we can work with that! All skill levels are welcome, but I will focus my time with the beginners.
